hello everyone! I have been away for a while due to a family death but I am back! I am going to discuss my view on copyright laws. First off I think the copyright laws are fine and should not be changed. Why? This is because the use of copyrighting has saved alot of peoples work. Everyday there are others trying to steal someones hard work and it is not fair. I actually had something very similiar happen to me. This happened about 3 years ago when I studied at fordham university. I remember I was writing a 10 page paper for my women in writing english class. I was in the school computer lab and I saved my work to the computer but did not delete it once I was done. I did not think anything of it! Then when the class had to turn in the paper another female had turned in the same paper as mine! I was so upset because I knew it was my hard work that I had put into that paper. I knew how much sweat and sleepless nights I had contributed and here comes someone along trying to take the credit. I dont think I have ever been that mad at anyone in my life! So in the end what saved me was the fact that I had emailed the paper to myself previously in which the professor was able to see the paper was originally mine. The female got discharged from college! That is a serious matter no matter what! I did feel bad about her schooling going down the drain but in the end its like who would do something like that? So yes, I say the copyright laws should stay the same and make no change because it saved my english grade! yea!

October 27, 2009 by jjackson86Hello everyone! in this blog im going to post about all my different methods of receiving the news. ok so my first method would have to be emails. When i wake up in the morning i receive emails straight to my blackberry which tell me about the current events. then if that is not enough i will pick up a newspaper for purchase. if that fails, i resort to the internet in which i go to tons of different websites for current events (cnn, aol etc…) … any questions email me! thanks!

Homework #5
October 20, 2009 by jjackson86The concept of the Invisible Web is difficult. We’re interested in when you think it is appropriate to search for information in sources besides Google. For example, what would use (invisible web vs general purpose search engines) to search for these topics:
buy a car- general engines
look for a recipe- general engines
the subject of global dimming- invisible web( more detailed, accurate information)
topics in Science.- invisible web(again, the invisible web gives more detailed accurate information). If it was just a basic science search, then a basic search engine (bing.com) will due.
Defend your choice using concepts from the readings.

Run a search using the keyword “Gambling” in the following sources:
1. Bing.com
2. Yahoo.com
3. lii.org
Answer the following questions on your blog:
-Do you think you are finding different types of information? Are you finding more scholarly material in any of the search engines than others? Explain your answer using examples from your searches.
Well for the first two search engines (yahoo and bing) I received the same types of results (the definition of gambling etc) while for lii.org I received results that were most articles that contained the word gambling. The last search engine was also the same as lii.org which results came up with articles containing the word gambling. I can see that the last two engines are more for researching articles, newspapers etc. The first two engines are more for a basic search/background.
hey everyone
October 13, 2009 by jjackson86whats up? im writing to inform everyone of the new technique ive learned regarding web searching: Lexis/Nexis. This is a cool web tool for searching newspaper articles. We had an assignment in my LRC class which had us search for economic crisis in the united states through Google and through Lexis/Nexis. The results for Lexis/Nexis came out way more accurate! I think its a great tool to use for research for school! I am excited about this new tool and look forward to using it in the future!!! See u guys soon!\

October 6, 2009 by jjackson86Which search tool did you use in Part II and why? I used the search engine Google for Part II. I chose to use Google because it is my preferred search engine. Ive always used Google because I feel the results are more accurate for the words I use to search.
What evaluation criteria did you use to choose the 2 websites in Part II? The evalution I used to choose the two websites were the titles of the articles( if they were for the reform or not for the healthcare reform) and after I read the articles I made sure the information was sufficient enough to answer the questions that were given.
What evaluation criteria are important to you when using the Internet? Important criteria to me when using the Internet are the reliable sources, who has posted the article/webpage I am looking at. Also, I will research the information that was given to me to make sure that the information is accurate(research from other websites).
